Spectrum Dominance

Dominating the information space

HENSOLDT South Africa is responsible for a large portion of HENSOLDT’s spectrum dominance portfolio, with a specific focus on electronic warfare and land-based signal intelligence solutions for the military market.

Spectrum dominance is the ability to create a clear picture of enemy emitters and own forces and to control how adversaries are using the spectrum – to know where emitters are located, what types of signals are being used and what is being transmitted.

This gives our clients information superiority, acts as a force-multiplier and ultimately gives our clients the tactical and strategic advantage in their field of operations.

HENSOLDT provides these capabilities as modular, scalable solutions – from standalone products, to light tactical solutions, up to large-scale strategic systems with integrated capabilities. HENSOLDT’s GEW solutions for land-based electronic warfare have gained a very strong reputation in the industry for more than 40 years. This, of course, while we are also continuously innovating, introducing smart solutions for the evolving threats in the modern spectrum environment.

Receivers

HENSOLDT South Africa manufactures a range of sophisticated narrowband and wideband software defined receivers (SDR), covering the frequency range from 9kHz to 9 GHz. Designed for high reliability and endurance and qualified to military standards, our receiver range is used for land, sea and air applications.

The GRX family of software defined multi-channel monitoring receivers are the ideal and most economic solution for modern COMINT systems. Traditional narrowband signal monitoring capabilities such as AF/IF streaming, demodulation and recording, are combined with wideband SDR technologies, to drive automated processes such as advanced data decoding and signal analysis functions. With multiple receiver channels in a rugged and compact rack, the GRX receivers are suitable for fixed and mobile applications.

The MRR8001 family is the latest generation of wideband receivers based on advanced frontend circuitry and SDR (software definable receiver) digital signal processing of the HF or V/UHF bands. The receivers offer an ultra-wide bandwidth, allowing multirole system implementations, e.g.  multiple demodulators in a wide bandwidth, recording of wideband IF and data for analysis of wideband data networks.

Jammers

HENSOLDT manufactures a range of advanced communications EA sub-systems and RCIED jammers.

The GRJ range of communications jamming systems integrate wideband surveillance receivers with powerful jamming processors and synthesisers that feature some of the most advanced signal attack methods on the market today.

The GEW® GRJ-range of electronic attack (EA) and surveillance systems control the adversary’s ability to communicate and use the electromagnetic spectrum – either by disrupting it, or manipulating it. Application-specific power amplifiers and antennas make the GRJ systems effective and versatile jamming solutions for ground-mobile, tactical, or fixed applications. The systems provide fast spectrum surveillance, ultra-low reaction latency, advanced exciter algorithms and multi-waveform counter-measures against the latest-generation signals. Featuring advanced architecture, the systems simultaneously target point-to-point radio links and new-generation multi-standard networks seamlessly. With high-performance wideband receivers and digital demodulation functionality, the systems offer excellent spectrum surveillance and signal monitoring performance, which is vital for conducting effective jamming missions.

Our new-generation software-defined multirole jammer combines a responsive jammer to counter RCIEDs for vehicle-based patrol activities and a tactical communications jamming capability in a single compact system. The GMJ9’s advanced architecture simultaneously targets point-to-point radio links and new generation multi-standard cellular networks seamlessly with multiple overlapping and independent transmitter channels and adaptive waveform algorithms.

The GMJ9000 series of jammers are designed to defend against potential RCIED threats.

Antennas

HENSOLDT South Africa offers a portfolio of advanced direction finding and monitoring antennas developed in-house, or designed and produced by trusted original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Combining state-of-the-art active and passive element designs to achieve outstanding sensitivity and accuracy, the range of antennas used in our systems further enhance the performance of our receiver and direction finding solutions.

We also manufactures a range of specialist antenna distribution units, which interface the receivers with the various antenna arrays. HENSOLDT SA manufactures its own range of antenna multicouplers and antenna distribution units, for use in COMINT systems. Using these antenna distribution units, virtually any number of receivers can be connected to monitoring antennas without RF interaction between the receivers or loss of sensitivity.
